Ubiorek jest miododajną, zimozieloną krzewinką wysokości od 10 do 35 cm tworzącą poduszeczki, które są długowieczne i mogą osiągać średnicę nawet 1,5 m. Liście równowąskie, całobrzegie, skórzaste, ciemnozielone. Kwiaty u większości odmian białe, czasami różowe, zebrane są w kwiatostany. Na początku kwitnienia kwiatostany są płaskie, średnicy 2 do 3 cm, w miarę rozkwitania kolejnych kwiatów wydłużają się groniasto. Roślina kwitnie od kwietnia do maja, niektóre odmiany do czerwca. Ubiorek zaleca się sadzić na glebie przepuszczalnej, umiarkowanie wilgotnej w miejscach nasłonecznionych.
